Many facilities are seeking faucet options to reduce water and energy usage, improve sanitation by reducing restroom touch-points, or manage vandalism issues. Metering faucets offer a simple, cost-effective solution for all of these needs. If your building has compatible Chicago Faucets manual lavatory faucets, there is an even easier option: convert the existing faucet from manual operation to MVP® one-touch metering. Chicago Faucets offers MVP® Metering Retrofit Kits designed to upgrade many of its existing manual faucets. For facility and maintenance teams, it’s an upgrade worth understanding before deciding that an existing faucet needs to be completely replaced.

What Is One-Touch Metering?

img_chicago-manual-to-metering-faucetsA traditional manual faucet requires the user to turn the handle to start the water flow and then turn it again to shut the water off. Chicago Faucets MVP® metering changes that sequence. The user activates the faucet to begin the hand-washing cycle. The MVP® metering cartridge controls the length of the water flow and then automatically shuts the water off, eliminating the need to touch the faucet again after hand-washing.

It is important to distinguish this from a touchless faucet. MVP® is a one-touch metering system, not a sensor-operated touchless faucet. The user still activates the faucet manually. For facilities that aren't currently moving to touchless fixtures, that makes metering another option to consider when evaluating existing Chicago Faucets.

Why Retrofit an Existing Faucet?

One of the most useful aspects of the MVP® system is that upgrading to metering doesn't necessarily mean replacing the entire faucet. Chicago Faucets specifically highlights the interchangeability of its products as a reason many of its popular manual lavatory faucets can be upgraded to one-touch metering.

That gives facility teams an important question to ask before replacing an existing Chicago Faucet: Can the faucet we have installed be converted? For buildings with a large number of existing faucets, identifying which fixtures are candidates for conversion can be a useful first step when planning restroom upgrades.

Which Chicago Faucets Can Be Upgraded?

Not every faucet should be assumed to be compatible, so identifying the existing faucet is important. Chicago Faucets specifically lists several popular manual lavatory faucet series that can be upgraded, including:

• 404 Series

• 405 Series

• 526 Series

• 700 Series

• 802 Series

• 895 Series

• And more

How Does the MVP® Conversion Work?

The MVP® retrofit changes the operating components that control the faucet rather than requiring the entire faucet to be replaced. Chicago Faucets' installation diagram identifies the primary MVP® components as the filter screen, cartridge, actuator, and handle.

Another useful maintenance feature of the MVP® metering cartridge is adjustable timing. After installation, Chicago Faucets instructs the installer to purge air from the cartridge by pressing the handle completely down four to eight times rapidly and then checking the timing cycle.

If adjustment is necessary, use a standard pair of pliers to adjust the nut in 1/4-turn increments. Turning the adjustment nut clockwise increases the run time. Chicago Faucets specifies that the flow should be timed with the handle installed; repeat the adjustment as needed until the desired timing is reached.
